A Statistical Approach to Snakes for Bimodal and Trimodal Imagery

چکیده
In this paper, we describe a new region-based approach to active contours for segmenting images composed of two or three types of regions characterizable by a given statistic. The essential idea is to derive curve evolutions which separate two or more values of a predetermined set of statistics computed over geometrically determined subsets of the image. Both global and local image information is used to evolve the active contour. Image derivatives, however, are avoided, thereby giving rise to a further degree of noise robustness compared to most edge-based snake algorithms.

In this work we modify the couple d curve evolution approach to snakes presente dby the authors in previous work for bimodal and trimodal imagery through the intr oduction of glob al constr aints. The key idea, as b efor e, is to derive curve evolution equations which \pull apart" the values of one or more statistics within the image. However, by imposing a new constraint on the evolution of th...

In previous papers analytical expressions were derived and validated for the packing fraction of bimodal hard spheres with small size ratio, applicable to ordered (crystalline) [H. J. H. In the present paper the underly...
متن کاملBimodal and trimodal multisensory enhancement: effects of stimulus onset and intensity on reaction time.
Manual reaction times to visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli presented simultaneously, or with a delay, were measured to test for multisensory interaction effects in a simple detection task with redundant signals. Responses to trimodal stimulus combinations were faster than those to bimodal combinations, which in turn were faster than reactions to unimodal stimuli. Response enhancement increa...
متن کاملOn a New Bimodal Normal Family
The unimodal distributions are frequently used in the theorical statistical studies. But in applied statistics, there are many situations in which the unimodal distributions can not be fitted to the data. For example, the distribution of the data outside the control zone in quality control or outlier observations in linear models and time series may require to be a bimodal. These situations, oc...
متن کاملColor snakes for dynamic lighting conditions on mobile manipulation platforms
Statistical active contour models (aka statistical pressure snakes) have attractive properties for use in mobile manipulation platforms as both a method for use in visual servoing and as a natural component of a human-computer interface. Unfortunately, the constantly changing illumination expected in outdoor environments presents problems for statistical pressure snakes and for their image grad...
